10th September 2019
Arthritis Action member, Gordon Thornett, will be speaking at the British Orthopaedic Association’s (BOA) Congress taking place 10-13 September 2019 at ACC Liverpool. Giving the patient’s perspective, Gordon will be speaking at a session led by the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance (ARMA), looking at the mental health of patients who have undergone joint replacement surgery.
Gordon says: “I’m pleased to have taken part in ARMA’s session at this year’s BOA Congress, where I have shared my experience and perspective on knee replacement surgery. My journey began with realising that I needed knee replacement surgery to treat my arthritis pain and improve my mobility. As with most patients, I had to wait a year or two and have had my appointment cancelled twice, for unavoidable reasons, so it turned out to be a long wait! I finally had my operation in February 2019. I am now well on the road to recovery.”
