This week we hosted speakers from ESCAPE-pain at our Kent Group meeting in Tunbridge Wells. The talk was presented by physiotherapists from the Kent Community Healthcare Trust, who will be introducing the ESCAPE-Pain programme in a venue local to the Group, near Tunbridge Wells.
ESCAPE-pain is a rehabilitation programme for people with long-term joint pain that integrates simple education, self-management, and coping strategies with an exercise regime individualised for each participant, running over a six-week course. The programme is delivered in sites across the UK ranging from physiotherapy departments to gyms, leisure centres and community halls. Arthritis Action piloted the programme in 2017 to find it was very effective for people with arthritis.
The fourth annual ESCAPE-pain conference will be held on Wednesday 12 December 2018 at Guy’s Hospital in London. The conference, entitled ‘Innovating, Collaborating, Motivating’, is aimed at those with an interest in commissioning or implementing ESCAPE-pain, and will provide an excellent networking opportunity for those engaged with supporting the spread of the programme, as well as those already delivering it. Delegates will learn about current ESCAPE-pain delivery models in the health and leisure sectors, and also how the programme supports delivery against the national agenda to increase physical activity in older adults.
