04 July 2017
On 5th July, NHS England turned 70 years old! The birthday celebrations began in January, and will run through to September, in honour of the remarkable service over the years; to extend a huge thank you to all the committed and hard-working staff over the decades; and in a bid to raise awareness for NHS charities and research teams around the country.
The festive bill features various events, including an exciting award programme called ‘NHS70 Parliamentary Awards’ for local communities. MPs are invited to nominate ‘health heroes’ in their constituency, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the national awards in July.
Other events include local NHS exhibition and open days, and the NHS Big7Tea, where staff, retired and current, volunteers, patients, carers, community groups are encouraged to have a cup of tea and share an NHS story.
Happy birthday our NHS and here’s to 70 more!
