In response to the report published today in the BMJ, which suggests that taking paracetamol for treating lower back pain and osteoarthritis of the hip or knee is ineffective and may affect the liver, Shantel Irwin, Chief Executive of Arthritis Action, comments:
“We know that when arthritis pain is bad, people with the condition want and need to seek relief, but we believe that physical therapies, weight management, and increased exercise are the best ways to cope with the condition long term.
“We want people to recognise the early symptoms of arthritis so that they can be empowered to take action and prevent pain and disability through supported self-management and lifestyle change.”
